I noticed I wash having an idle issue the other day when I was on the lake and my motor kept wanting to die. I think the carbs needed to be cleaned. I decided to put some sea foam in the tank and some high octane gas and run the boat around American lake today to see if I could clean things up a bit. I ended up driving circles around the lake for about 45 minutes. This seemed to do the trick as my motor wasn't cutting out at idle. I of course bought a couple rods with me and decided to troll just after the noon hour. It was a little windy, I also had some rain, and sunshine as well. I decided to troll a rainbow trout rapala on top about 150 ft behind the boat. I put a pink sockeye slammer down anywhere from 10-25 feet trying to see if could find a kokanee. The top line rod hooked up within 5 minutes of trolling, unfortunately the fish surfaced three times and managed to release himself. I started reeling in for a reset and hooked up again with a smaller fish which was landed. I then had a taker on the downrigger rod at 18 feet, and it was another rainbow. I ended up hooking 8 fish in an hour to land my 5 keepers. I didn't encounter any kokanee on this trip, it was a total trout fest. The fish seem to be smaller on average then I am used to in years past, but still fun to catch. It was a great day on the water, and both lures I mentioned will do the trick for you if you are thinking about hitting up American. I am looking forward to trying Halibut next week on the sounds for the first time.
