Hadn't been to Samish in a few weeks, so we decided to head that way and see if the lake had warmed up (it had!). There was a bass tournament on the lake, so the parking lot was overflowing with trailers. AIS was at the launch too, first time I've had my sticker checked this year. We launched at 10:30 and immediately headed for the first point on the North. As we were getting lines tied up I told the crew to hold on and we would head to the small lake to try and get out of the wind. But no sooner did I say that than the fishfinder lit up orange and we decided to stick out the weather instead.
Worked that area hard doing circles in the wind. Managed to get one kok right to the boat before losing it at the net, but otherwise had no bites. So we packed up and headed North to the small lake where one lap around showed us not much was going on there. Headed back to the big lake where the wind was calming down and found a nice school in 45' of water. On 6 passes through that school we hooked up 5 times. Only problem was we lost 4 of them at the net :( Fishing cooled off after that and with only 1 fish in the cooler we started trolling back to the launch, when we hooked up one more time, with a nice cutthroat. Threw it in the box and left the lake around 4pm.
Will be back soon, with a longer net and a lot of patience! The good news is the fish have started waking!
