A friend and I fished Swofford Pond from 6:30 to 11:30 on Friday evening. We decided to troll for trout, but forgot the trolling gear so we used rooster tail-like lures with little hunks of night crawler. The trout fishing was good, but we had a hard time getting them to the boat. Out of about twenty decent strikes, we hooked about eight, and landed only four. All were rainbows between 9-12 inches. While trolling we also caught a small bass and several (maybe ten) bluegill. At 9:45 or so we geared up for catfish. We fished nightcrawlers off the bottom near the spill-way, and the cove near the boatlaunch, but to no avail. We hadn't gotten a bite by 11:30 so we called it a night. On the way out we talked to a gentleman fishing on the Riffe Lake side of the spill way. He'd thrown back several undersized (about 8 inch) catfish. He said the catfish have yet to get active this year, and he hasn't seen any caught out of Swofford. Great day and great weater, if you're fishing for trout, bass, or bluegill Swofford is the place to be. Channel Catfish on the other hand, I'd give a couple weeks.
