FINALLY! it is Summertime and you all know what that means, WARM-WEATHER FISHING! Yes folks, time to take the jackets off, put the flip-flops on, and chase some fish under the sun. I want to start todays post by saying a huge thank you to Reli Lures (that is also their name the site) . their wedding rings absolutely destroyed the fish today. If you haven't had the opportunity to try any of Reli Lures/Zombie Tinder's products, you certainly need to get your hands on their wedding-rings, spinners, kokanee trolling flies, or God's Tooth spoons. Their products are made of the highest-quality material, all the way down to the hand-tied Gamakatsu hooks. seriously, check them out.
SHORT REPORT:
my good buddy Petdawg and I launch around 6:45 and are fishing by about 7:15. the starters for the day were a RMT 5.5" dodger and a red wedding ring for Petdawg, and a 5.5" sling blade with a pink Reli Lures Wedding ring for myself with both downriggers set at 31. no more than two minutes go by, we have our first fish: a beautiful 17.5" fatty cutthroat. by 8:40, we have 10 gorgeous cutthroat in the boat with the largest being about 19". after our limits, we trolled the shoreline looking for bass beds, then fished perch for a couple hours until the day was done. Absolutely incredible day.
LONG REPORT:
This week has been go go go for me, so i am beyond ecstatic for such a great day on the water. sunday night at 11:30 i landed back home from a two-week business trip in Costa Rica (gorgeous country), monday morning i wake up at 6:00am to drive to Cle Elum and buy a boat, Tuesday i wake up at 6:00am and do work on my grandmother's estate, and yesterday morning i had some dental/jaw surgery. needless to say, this week has been a doozy and it was sure great to be on the water.
Rmraushcer called me while he was on sammamish yesterday (check out his great report) to tell me the fish were biting well and i should get out there. So, i did what any other sane fisherman who was 2 hours out of a little mouth surgery: called up my buddy and said lets it the freaking water tomorrow!
We end up at the launch around 6:45, get the boat setup and in the water by 7, and start fishing around 7:15. Petdawg had fished the lake a week prior and limited, so we went back to that spot to try it again.
Rod1: RMT 5.5" dodger, 12" leader to a red wedding ring tipped with worm at 31 feet on the rigger
Rod 2: Shasta Tackle 5.5" sling blade, 14" leader to a pink Reli Lures Wedding Ring tipped with worm also at 31 feet on the rigger.
2 minutes into the troll, Petdawg is on and suddenly there is a Fat 17.5" fish in the boat. Fantastic! about 15 minutes later, petdawg hooks up again and puts another nice cutty in the box. Right after i net that fish for Petdawg, my rod doubles over and i am into a nice cutty. boated him and in 20 minutes we already have 3 fish in the boat. from there on, the action was lights out. we had constant doubles/ almost doubles until we caught our limits at just before 8:40. the fishing was unbelievable for that stretch of time. we didn't change gear, we didn't switch depths, nothing. smallest was just under 15" (only kept because he was bleeding out and it would not have been sporting to release) and largest was around 19". a spectacular day on the water.
Petdawg and i each caught one right at the surface right as we were clipping our gear into the downrigger. very cool to see these trout explode at your lure and go flying out of the water! just goes to show that these fish are all up and down the water column still. all of the trout we caught today were full of small baitfish. most of the ones we caught were spitting up fish that were already fairly digested, but my guess would be that they were stickleback by the size and body shape.
after our scorching hot cutthroat action, we trolled the shoreline for a bit looking for bass beds as i am headed out on a bass trip this weekend to test the pre-spawn bite. I caught one smaller bass yesterday off a dock on a lipless crank, so they are around! we closed out the day doing a little shallow trolling for perch and ended up with 6 in total. we kept four and a pike minnow that was darn near 20" (he was bleeding out as well). I know the pike minnow don't taste too delicious, but Petdawg said he was going to try smoking it.... who knows, it could be delicious! The perch are on their way into shore, but we were still marking them in schools in 25-50 FOW. Water temp is 66, so they will come in soon!
Lake Sammamish is truly a treat to fish and to many it is a unknown gem . This lake during the summer time has opportunities for everything from cutthroat trout to bass to panfish. This summer should continue to be great to big Cutthroat trout and good bass fishing as well. In another couple weeks the perch and panfish will move close into shore making them very fun to fish for.
Lastly, I have to say thank you again to Reli Lures. your lures knocked the trout out of the park today.. catching fish less than every ten minutes is incredible. I will certainly be getting more of all of your products, and i am incredibly excited to continue use your lures and do business with you. I am sure proud to use your products.
Thanks for reading,
TIGHT LINES AND GOOD TIMES TO ALL!
