This is the first of two kokanee fest Memorial weekend reports. Fish dawg (Bryan) and family were camping at Potholes over the weekend so we plotted against the kokanee on Roosevelt. Just couldn't resist. Met Bryan and friend David at the launch at 6:30 AM and had the poles in shortly after 7. With the water low you have to deduct the water levels from the chart and so found some shallow water but didn't loose any tackle. Just as we trolled out over the edge in deeper water the first rod went off and we had a really nice kokanee in the boat. Yahoos and high fives all around. Saw Captain Dave with his clients that looked like they were having a great time.

We ran planer boards with three colors of lead core working well. Orange dodgers and hoochies with spinners worked well as did one my favorites with a purple/ pink hot head Dick Nite dodger and a custom hoochie with holographic spinner blade. I switched up to an orange Kekeda with a wiggle fin on the front baited with artificial worm and it was lights out for the nicest rainbow and kokanee of the day. That's right a huge kokanee on that set up!! Trolling speed duties were handled by the iTroll running speeds between 1.2 and 2.2 miles per hour. All fish were caught in the top twenty feet of water. The bite stopped before noon and we finished the day with 8 hatchery rainbow and four kokanee. What a beautiful day and a great time on the water catching awesome fish with friends!

By the way be SURE to not keep any wild rainbows (adipose fin intact). The fish checker said they were still seeing quite a few coming in. The boat behind us had four. I'm sure its been well enough publicized by now that WDFW would likely give out citations if they checked and you had a wild rainbow at Roosevelt.

Have fun out there - Alan - iFishSolutions.com

Thanks for giving that orange Kekeda the workout, Alan. I'm happy to hear it produced for you with the trout and Kokanee. That is a monster 'bow! What did it measure out to? That's one of the deepest I've seen in a while for Roosevelt. Nicely done, sir!

It is an interesting thing. That bow was just over 20 inches and thicker/deeper than any I've seen in a long time. We had it for dinner tonight, beautiful red meat and delicious ...yum!

Love to plot against those kokanee! Maybe we can find a time to chase some Loon kokanee together this summer. And then there's the tuna trip this fall; can hardly wait!
