Memorial day weekend probably wasn't the best time to go fish sammamish for cutts, but my wife and kids wanted to go out in the boat on Saturday the 27th. I decided to wait till afternoon to go, which turned into getting lines in by about 445 pm. We trolled a couple of near surface lines out from the launch before it got deep enough for the downriggers. We also threw 2 crawfish pots out near the park along the way. (nothing caught in those) One dodger and white hoochie, one dodger and spoon. hoochie tipped with worm. The second I dropped the hoochie rig down to 30ft, fish on!. Boated a nice 16 inch cutt. Dropped the downrigger again to the same depth and fish on, feels bigger this time! Handed off to my daughter Lana, She got it part way in and handed back off to me! She took over for net duty, smacked the fish in head a few times, and eventually netted a nearly 18 in cutt. Younger daughter, kenna, got to catch a little fish, and Laura (wife) got to catch a another 17 incher. All on the white hoochie in less than an hour. 30ft down, 100ft back, 1.5 mph. Fast action, nice fish, all despite the choppy, overcrowded, memorial weekend conditions. Left with 4 fish, and 2 dangling sonar transducers that ripped off the transom saver plates when they met a high speed object.....
I went back out by myself last night (mon 5-29) and tried for a repeat, the launch was packed! Major lines both ways, in and out. People freaking out, cussing, and generally giving unfriendly advice to each other. Quite a zoo.
Running tight on time here, so long story short, hooked 4 boated 2, a big one snapped the leader right as I tightened the drag. left with 16 and 17 in fish. White p line geisha squid was the hot lure again.
Too fun... I'll be back soon with my dad for sure.
