I live 2 minutes from Coulon Park and have heard about the Perch and other types of fish to be caught once the weather warmed up but still had not headed s down till tonight.

First fish was a 10" Crappie! I was somewhat surprised to say the least. Then the Rock Bass started to pay me a visit cast after cast. Some tiny ones too! More Crappie, but most were quite small but I did get 4 nice ones total. Only a few Perch which were fair length, but thin.

Plenty of action to be had on this nice overcast evening. Glad it's only two minutes from home and one should be able to have luck in the sunshine days too!

I gave two of the Crappie to a man fishing there who was after Perch. Released the rest.

Can someone enlighten me about Rock Bass....all of them were quite small. What is a good size for these fish taken out of Washington? These fish all had red eyes and I am pretty such they were Rock Bass. I forgot my phone to take pics.

All were caught on my Slip Bobber set up as usual.

Pretty much the same size as for crappie. Perhaps slightly smaller. They usually fight pretty good. Good eating too! If I am catching smaller ones I cast to a slightly different spot but close by to 'maybe' catch some a little bigger.

Where exactly were you fishing to catch the crappies at Coulon?

The rock bass don't get very large in the lake, 10" is a whopper. I've eaten them a few times and they just don't stack up to perch, crappie or bluegill. Now when I catch them, they end up as crab bait. I usually wait until July to target the perch as they are just finishing up the spawn and won't have put the weight back on yet.

Picked up a 9" Rock Bass today. Good to know that it was almost a "whooper" in size. I'll try some more!
