Fished solo this afternoon/evening from 130 pm till about 7pm. Lake was pretty quite, but fishing wasnt all that hot for me. Most of my bites were 20-30ft down on the downrigger, small hoochies behind a small dodger tipped with night crawler again. Being as slow as it was, I rotated through a lot of gear and tried different speeds, scents etc... But my biggest problem today was perch. They were everywhere! The little buggers were scattered deep and shallow, near shore and all the way through the lake. There were some schools, but many of them were just suspended and scattered. This made finding cutts difficult with sonar, but it was a huge pain in the rear trying to keep them off of my gear. I could barely see them on the line through the downrigger release, and I have a feeling a lot of my time was wasted dragging a perch all over the lake without knowing it was on there. ohh well.. most were close to 10 inches and perch is one of the tastiest fish to swim in fresh water!

It was easy to tell what the cutts were chasing, by their stomach contents, but what the heck were the crazy perch doing? Their stomachs were mostly empty, but contained green goo like a kokanee usually does. The females had no eggs, but the males were.. um.. very fertile. Not much for parasites on the cutts, but one of the perch had its gills covered by copepods.

We fished today from 11 am to 1:30 pm. If I could post a picture of the sonar screen, you would wonder how we could not get a bite sometimes. Very full from 20 ft to 50 ft. down. Used slingblades and red and white and red needlefish and a pink and white hoochie on the other one. The needlefish saw more action and was on a DR at 22 ft. The hoochie was on lead line at 7 colors. No crawlers. Used the gas motor and trolled at 2.6 to 2.8 mph and had all of the action at that speed. Trolled at 1.5 to 1.7 mph with electric trolling motor and had no action. Most of the hits were in 77 to 95 feet of water depth. Got 3 in the boat, 1 popped off near the boat, and 3 hit and runs. What speed did you find that you had the most hits?

every dodger I own rolls by 2.0mph, so I i ran dodger rigs 1.4-1.8 and spoons, plugs, etc, 1.8-2.5 mph
