On the water at 7:45 am, full cloud cover with wind and rain. Debris in the water has not improved, it was a bugger getting from the Dam up to Swawilla. We had to throttle down and idle through for some of the trip. We arrived at the " Merry Go Round", we were the only dang fools out there for awhile. We did see a few other boats later in the morning. Trolled through the bay and I caught a nice Rainbow that fought like a silver, we changed lures several times with no luck. Decided to try for Walleye, caught one itty bitty and let him go. The wind was giving us heck trying to stay over the Walleye as we were going stealth with the electric, so back to trolling with the kicker for silvers, caught 3 nice Rainbows 2 were natives that we released. We trolled depths from 20' to 60', had some difficulty holding our desired trolling speed as the wind kept changing.
Dad decided the heck with the dodgers and the flashy gear ( he is not a fan of all the new stuff ) so he threw on an old Needlefish he hand painted... Bam a silver! On the next pass another keeper Rainbow, 18 inch. I'll be go to you know where! I've gotta say that more often than not when dad throws on one of his hand painted needlefish he out fishes me and all my recently purchased big name Kokanee gear! He catches the bigger fish most of the time. Meanwhile I've spent several hundred dollars on all the latest greatest Kokanee gear, I won't mention any names. But, I have bought lures, dodgers/flashers, wedding rings, hoochies, scents, dyes, you name it. Dad throws on a needle fish, no corn, no scent, no attractors and dang if he doesn't get the big ones.
The weather cleared for little while but didn't last. It was a grey, windy rainy day, but we have found those to be the better catching days. Thankfully we have a comfy boat with full cover. All in all we caught fish throughout the day, but only 3 keepers in the cooler.
We will keep trying, it beats sitting home moaning about the crappy weather...lol
