Haven’t been to Stevens in almost a month and wanted to see if the bite has improved any since my last trip. It has, to a degree. Perfect morning to fish. On the water at 5am, maybe 10 boats on the water fishing, plus an early bird or 2 water skiing. At 5am the temperature was already north of 60, and the surface water temp was already right at 70.

Started my morning with Reli Lures Elgin Fishing God’s Tooth Spoons. One 1 line a 50/50 blue God’s Tooth, home cured corn with garlic and tuna dyed orange, a Dick Nite moon jelly dodger and about 12 inches of leader to the lure. Other line a 50/50 gold God’s Tooth, Pautzke’s fire corn natural color dyed orange and soaked in Pro Cure Boody Tuna oil, Mack’s Double D Dodger in moon jelly, and 12 inches of leader. Started 1 line at 20 feet, the other at 35. By the end of the day both lines were at 35-40 feet, which is where I got all the Kokanee. I did mess around at one point in the morning wanting to know what all of the marks were between 10-20. I found out they were perch, so I quickly left those marks alone. By the end of the day what was getting strikes from the Kokanee was the blue 50/50 God’s Tooth and a Yakima Bait pink hootchie.

I really had to scratch around to find fish today. I would get into a couple, then have to search around to get into a couple more, rinse repeat. I found the depth, just could not find any big schools to work. This seems to be the norm for Stevens this year once the fish moved off of the surface. I don’t think I am marking as many fish as I did last year on the lake.

The pleasure craft showed up pretty early today, and I was rocking and rolling before 9am hit, which made fishing even that more difficult. This was probably the busiest day I’ve seen on the water there. Fish seemed to want the speed between 1 - 1.25 mph. Only 1 fish on the Sam Baird corn recipe, they really liked the Pautzke’s in the Pro Cure Bloody Tuna better today. I eventually switched both lines to that. In all I landed 6 Kokanee and 1 Perch. I had 3 Kokanee get off somewhere on the way to the net.

Video shows the fish I landed plus the last clip shows the monster perch :)

Great job on the video and report! Six kokes seems great this year since it's been so tough. Glad the outing paid off :)

I had seen somewhere that someone once added a hoochie skirt to a God's Tooth. Decided what the heck, but all I had was pink. The fish liked it for some reason and all of the hook ups where on the front hook instead of the trailing hook. Looked weird but it worked.

Interesting set up indeed. Did you try a pink God's tooth by chance?

Yea after I rigged the 50/50 I thought maybe it was the color. Tried the pink God's Tooth and a few different pink spinners as well. Even tried a macks smile blade in front of a bare hoochie. I however didn't try a pink God's Tooth with a hoochie.

Mike actually launched the same time I did. He of course got to fishing faster than me. I passed by him a few times. I know he got into a few early but then it died off for him last I heard. He left I think earlier than I did. From talking to other boats, best morning out there I know of was 8. I think Mike had around 5 when I last saw him. Most boats I think had 1-3.

Found out from Mike that he got 6 as well. Sounds like he had a few more on than I did though to get his 6. By 9am it was rough out there with all of the water skiers - wake boarders.

That's awesome. How did the fish look, health wise?
