I went shore fishing at Gene Coulon Park targeting largemouth and smallmouth bass. I've never caught a bass on topwater, so I was anxious to give it a try. I tied on my new Whopper Plopper and gave it a go. I started around 6 am, and it was fairly quite for while. I had a small strike without a hookup near the small sailing boats. I walked further down to the first bridge, and I got a great strike close to shore. It was about a 2 pounder. Lots of fun! As the sun was coming up, I thought maybe there wouldn't be too much more action on topwater, so I fished a drop shot for a little while. I caught a small but very scrappy smallmouth. It got quite again for a while, so I switched to the Ned rig, and they seemed to really like it. I ended up getting 2 more largemouth and 1 smallmouth on the Ned rig before calling it quits around 10:30am. In the 1-2 lb range. Nothing big but still lots of fun. All in all a good morning of fishing.
I think Gene Coulon is one of the better places to fish for bass from shore. There is plenty of shore access there. Lake Union has been good to me, also. I've been meaning to check out Seward Park and the West I90 bridge area as other potential places to fish for bass from shore. Does anybody have any other suggestions?
