The wife and I got on CDA at about 5:15 am. For those of you that are interested, she finished an entire book by the time I stopped fishing at about 3:30 pm. That said:
I caught and released 7 pike today and missed several others. Unfortunately two of those were much bigger than my biggest of the day. I got one 5 pounder, one 6 pounder, 4, 7 pounders and one at a little over 9 pounds. I also managed to catch one 2 1/2 pound smallie.
The smallie hit a 5" glide bait and all of the pike but one came on a spinner bait. The remaining pike hit a Big Hammer Swimbait behind a chatterbait blade. Once again I managed to leave a couple of big ones behind. One of those beauties gulped down my spinner bait and must have had a mouth of steel. The bait came out of her mouth lie it had no hooks on it. How does that happen?????
Water temps were from 70 to 76 degrees in the main lake. All fish were caught in water of 73 degrees or higher. Fish were caught in 8 to 15 feet of water, using a very slow retrieve. They are out there, I just gotta figure out how to stick those bigger fish when they bite. I had one follow from a high 30's to 40" fish on a glide bait. She got behind the bait and followed it all the way to the boat. I first saw her about 25 feet from the boat and nothing I did could get her to bite. I guess she was just window shopping.
