I believe 3rd time at this lake. 1st time this year, wanted to fish a new destination.
Got there early enough where there's still shade on the west bank. Want that top water bite, so I started running it along the shore. After about 10 mins of nothing, I started pitching the DS around the docks. Nothing. Move out along the outer weed edge in ~15' of water. 2nd toss with the DS and I feel a thump. Set the hook and fight is on! I comes up quickly and it's a nice SMB. Drag it to the back of the boat and getting ready to scoop. Success! 20 mins and I have a nice 3.02# SMB. Figured I was onto a pattern. LOL yeah right.
Attempted to duplicate the pattern, but I was getting bombarded with pesky perch. tap tap tap tap, non-stop.
Weaved shallow and deep with only a dink LMB on a DS, barely the size of my hand. Had a ~1# SMB chase my deep diving crank, but didn't swipe at it.
Get to the south end of the lake and see plenty of empty beds. Didn't see any bass cruising.
Boated towards the northern side of the lake. Looking on my map, wasn't sure what to do at this lake, but I stuck with the DS since that produced me 2 bass. I pitched the DS under a deep dock and a few ticks, but no hookup
Lots of laydowns around . Pitched it towards the shallow side and nada. Pitch it towards the end and nada, but now i'm snagged on it. Swung around to the other side of the tree and popped the lure off with it still intact. Pitched it out into a little bit deeper water, ~16'. As soon as it hit bottom, felt a thump. Set the hook and fish on! It's a good one. Sun is in my face and it looked like a nice LMB. Sweep to the left and clearly see it's a big SMB. Not a monster, but pretty big. Into the net it goes. 3.94# SMB. NICE! Even though I'm not catching a lot, catching quality.
Continued down the shoreline and get myself a couple of dink SMB. One of them came flying out of the water on the hookset. Poor thing.
Called it quits after 4 hours. Overall, not bad, but it was a struggle finding them.
