So I piled all my electronic stuff in the boat to go trolling with a downrigger so I could catch some salmon while fishing for cutthroat and return them to colder water at depth to log my results for the WDFW. Last time out I could not keep them off my line. This time I had one hit from 'who knows what' that shook the hook. That was it for about three hours of trolling. Could see fish but they were not having any of it. Bagged it and went pan fishing.
Saw a number of people catching fish in various areas. I took a spot by the training facility and hit spot lock and the action was fairly non stop. Tossed back a lot of smaller fish but kept 16 perch and 8 rock bass. Used a bobber or drop shot rig and a piece of white with fleck senco worm. Caught a few pumpkin seed as well. Man they are pretty!
I used a chinese 'Shishamano' (I think...) bait casting reel with braid and a spin cast ultra light rod upside down for all fishing. Yes, I am quite the rebel... Reel actually worked good.
Managed to drop the rod and reel overboard but caught the end of the line. Unfortunately the button was pushed on the reel... There was a LOT of line on the water by the time the backing mono finally came to the end. Reeled it all back up no problem. Knocked it off the gunnel AGAIN about an hour later but made a great effort and caught the tip to keep from a repeat. Whew!
