Went to Roosevelt today to prove my incompetence as a kokanee angler and completely succeeded. Marked plenty of fish and threw everything I had at them but they just wouldn't budge. A little bummed for sure and my ego took a little bruising but I am hoping after a couple sessions with my shrink I might be able to move past this day and kokanee fish with confidence again.

I fished from the Spring Canyon to the dam in depths from 50-200+' anywhere from 40-90' deep. However, I did catch good numbers of Rainbows including a couple fish above 20" (both clipped). Many of the Rainbows are severely infested with copepods. I also caught a walleye in 200' of water at 40' and many Smallmouth Bass. I took a break mid-day for a couple of hours bass fishing too (see other report).

I'm not sure why the kokanee aren't biting this summer. Its a mystery to me and I am only hearing random reports of folks finding the big fish. Back to chasing 16" kokanee for a while.

Thanks for the report, very much appreciated. What type of fish is that in the middle of the picture? Also, how fast were you trolling? Thinking about making the trip there in a few weeks. Thanks.

Fished out of spring canyon mid-may. Found one small spot shallow that kicked out a few kokes. Issue is very few kokes in lake now. Fishery folks don't seem to even know we're the kokes spawn. General thought is if you don't know where fish are coming from don't be surprised when they don't show up. I've never caught a lg hatchery Koke in L.K . Roos. There are studies on the L.R. Kokes but nothing definitive. Better luck next year
