Went to Roosevelt today to prove my incompetence as a kokanee angler and completely succeeded. Marked plenty of fish and threw everything I had at them but they just wouldn't budge. A little bummed for sure and my ego took a little bruising but I am hoping after a couple sessions with my shrink I might be able to move past this day and kokanee fish with confidence again.
I fished from the Spring Canyon to the dam in depths from 50-200+' anywhere from 40-90' deep. However, I did catch good numbers of Rainbows including a couple fish above 20" (both clipped). Many of the Rainbows are severely infested with copepods. I also caught a walleye in 200' of water at 40' and many Smallmouth Bass. I took a break mid-day for a couple of hours bass fishing too (see other report).
I'm not sure why the kokanee aren't biting this summer. Its a mystery to me and I am only hearing random reports of folks finding the big fish. Back to chasing 16" kokanee for a while.
