Back at it again. I can't get enough. Even though this makes 6 days in a row with no fish, I am still not giving up. I will be out tomorrow morning. My first available morning all week. I was only able to spend an hour and a half at the river.

The evening seems not to be working out too well. The only action I saw was the guy who was standing in the river in front of me. He was able to cast his pink squid jigs into the swift part of the river. His first catch wasn't really a catch. He snagged a pink on its back fin and struggled to reel it in. When he finally go it in he realized it was snagged and had to release it. I was proud of his integrity. The second fish he caught was also not legal. He snagged it by the tail. He had to release that also. It is good to see people playing by the rules. Unfortunately this shows me that they aren't really biting at least in the evening. I will try fishing low tide tomorrow morning. I heard it can make a difference.

Good luck all.

I figured at some point somebody would read something I posted about them. It is nice to see the positivity of all the local fisherman, despite the low catch rate this year everyone seems to be happy on the water.

Try using some scent on your jigs.

I bought a sandshrimp scent that comes in a chap stick tube from Amazon. Supposedly it is supposed to help but no luck so far.

Use a heavier jig head 1 to 1.5 oz to get out further. Just make sure you have enough backbone in your rod to bounce it. The fish don't care. I used 1 ounces yesterday because the bottom of the hole I was fishing was 24' and I want to get it near the bottom with a stronger current. There are lots of fish near shore as well. It's more about the action on your jig.

I appreciate the comments. I do believe my jig is only around 5/8th oz. I am buying the premade pink squid. I tried the 1.5 oz kastmasters but they seem to be too big. I tend to get snagged a lot if I get it too heavy.

Also for the newer people fishing jigs. The fish hit on the drop. You will feel your line get heavy and set the hook. You don't feel the traditional tap tap. The fish just picks up the jig and goes. They drop it quick. So if you are taking big swings with your jigging motion you may have too much slack on the drop. I take maybe a half a rod length on the lift. Drop my rod to the water while reeling faster allowing just a little slack.

How do you tell between a snag, rock hang and a "heavy line". I've "set the hook" to the tune of about $50 of gear so far this year. I guess you aren't fishing unless you are losing gear but the river has to throw me a fish every now and again right?

Mav,

We fishing in the same spots? Ha! I've been putting up goose eggs every day except for a couple small Coho Hen's while I was out on Whidbey. I'm amazed at how poor my bank/shoreline-fishing season has gone so far. I'm using 1/2oz - 1oz jigs (lots), float systems, spoons, etc of the same variety of as everyone else, dropping them down, putting the magic twitch/bounce but haven't ended up with a single fish out of Snoho. Hardly any bites, plenty of snags though that felt like a bite for about 2.5 seconds. LOL.

Keep fighting the good fight, we'll have a limit day here soon! Where you fishing tomorrow? I'll be out early.

The only thing I have caught is the ground, ex: sticks, rocks and logs. I am out at Thomas Eddy. Some positions have less snags than others.

when I fish a shaggy spot I go light. I have a 4wt 10' fly rod tied as a spinning setup . with 6 lb test I can toss any size jig clear across the river. It is also sensitive enough I can feel bottom with it and pick up my pace on the twitching and retrieve. You can also switch your set up to a 12" dropper off of a swivel and put on a wee duck night in 50/50 Nicole silver or pink / white. Weight the dropper with a split shot large enough to keep you close to the bottom. If you snag on rocks the split shot will pull off. If branches your screwed. Reel extremely slow if you think you are reeling slow reel slower. Let the river work the lure.
