I knew the boat launch would be packed this morning. Got there by 5:40 and there was a line clear out on down the road. Decided to go home and head out later when the line died down.
Went back around 9 and took my 6 year old with me. His first time salmon fishing. Got out on the water, anchored down and saw a friend who had been there earlier. Said the early morning was great but it had died down. I start casting. Within 5 minutes, bam! Brought in a nice 6lb buck. Things kept going from there. Last one I got wrapped around my anchor line. Took me a few minutes to loosen it. Thought I lost it for sure. Nope, still on! Lucky me. Limited in 45 minutes today.
Then my boy says he wants to try and haul in one like his old man. Gets one on the line, fighting it like crazy. After a good fight he brings it to the boat and we net him. Guys around us are cheering him on. He had a grin from ear to ear. I'm not sure who enjoyed that moment more, me or him. About 25 minutes later he gets his 2nd and he throws in the towel.
1.5 hrs on the water total and 5 nice pinks. 4 bucks and 1 hen. They are good sizes this year compared to 2 years ago I've noticed. I'm sure the rest of you are seeing the same thing. I was expecting this run of pinks to be slow since that's all I was hearing from WDFW. Not so. Been good so far.
God bless and tight lines!
