I have been itching to hit the river for some pinks, but I did not want to fight weekend crowds, so I decided to go see what would happen if I targeted the Coho in Bosworth.

I started about 7:30, on 1 line a 50/50 Elgin Fishing God's Tooth spoon rigged for Kokanee, and on the other line a 50/50 Reli Lures Diamond Flash Spinner. Both trailed a Mack's Double D dodger with about 16 inches of leader. I moved my lines up and down chasing meter marks at first. Anywhere from 20-50 feet my line spent some time there. I was getting a few takedowns that were not sticking, but otherwise it started pretty slow for about the 1st hour. At about 25 feet I finally got 1 to stick on the 50/50 God's tooth, got it all the way to the net and could see that it was definitely a Coho, maybe 12 inches. Just as I grabbed my net he shook off. This repeated itself a few times, plus a couple of more times the rod would do one quick bend, but nothing would be there. Both lines got bit. I probably released 5 or so Rainbows before I started putting bait on my lines.

I finally broke out some corn, that has been soaking in Anise/Krill. I didn't want to use it because if I did get into some rainbows I wanted to be able to release. The corn/scent worked. Immediately landed a feisty little 10-11 inch Coho. Then unfortunately landed 3 straight Rainbows. All decent fish, 12-13 inches, but not what I was after. Ended the day with another Coho, this one went about 12 inches. Was nice to see that I could target them (somewhat). Hard part was getting them to stick. I saw quite a few Coho jumping today. Most looked small, maybe 8-10 inches.

I didn't film today, as I am hoping to film some pinks and real Coho here soon. Fun morning all the same.

Nice report, seems like they were biting light? Also probably a challenge with them being on the smaller side? Sounds like you had fun though:)

There seems to be a healthy population of them there, but it does seem like the largest age class runs about 12 inches. So many rainbows to compete with for food I think that is about as big as they get. You can tell right away when you have one on and not a rainbow though. For some reason the Coho aren't afflicted with the copepods like the rainbows there are. Every one I saw was dime bright with no copepods on them. Not sure if they were light biting or just too small to get hooked. It's a neat little lake though, specially in these warmer months to get away from the water skiers. It's time now though to start stocking my freezer with salmon for smoking :)

I've read some past reports from this lake where there has been some debate as to whether or not there are Coho or Kokanee there. The fish are definitely Coho. At this size visually it can be real hard to tell the difference. Visually about the only way to tell the difference is Coho will have some silver pigment in the tail, and their eyes are almost completely black, Kokanee have a lot of gold in their eyes and no pigment on the tail. You can also definitely feel the teeth in small Coho, where Kokanee you are hard pressed to feel teeth.

I think similar to lake Stevens as I believe I have caught coho out of there too. Very interesting! :)
