Bottom Fishing From Boat

Got there early, but gate was still closed. So circled around and went for quick pitstop.

Started in fishy shallow area working a topwater without a single bait. Got to a point and see some markings at about 30'. Dropshot straight down and landed a #1 SMB. Moving around the point, I did get a bite shallow, so I backed back up and start working the 25-30' zone and landed several more SMB. Nothing big, up to 1.5# or so.

Continue north and planned on stopping off at Farthole, only to see someone hitting it already. I keep going and work another deep point with a few more 1#ers.

Start hitting up the east shoreline with a few dinks in the shallows. Moved out deeper and caught some more #1 and dinks.

Working way back down, see Farthole is open and made some casts. Got a couple nibbles in the deeper water, but no hookup. Start working the bank then moved out into deeper water. Found a school of SMB. Caught several 2#ers, 1#ers and smaller dinks. Biggest of the group at 2.34#. I think 6 or 7 bass from this little area.

Went over to the west bank to check out a couple of spots quickly without a bass. Then stopped off at a dropoff and caught a bunch of 1#ers and a couple that had to have been close to 2#. Also caught 2 bait thieves at this hole. The first one spit out 1 of the baits I lost. A 2nd one spit out 2, with the other still attached. Crazy appetite. I guess they like my bait. Too bad they spit it out too deep for me to salvage and reuse.

Check out what this ~1.5# bass was choking down on. A crawfish with this weird huge white ball. This was the only fish that spit out craw. All the others spit out baitfish.

Looks kind of like a shrimp, but I don't think there are freshwater shrimp in the lake?

Maybe it's somebody's exotic in-home fish-tank pet that they released into the lake.

Sounds like a great day on the water. Thanks a lot for the report.

Did you get that "shrimp" out of the mouth and take other pictures? I got to the gate right at 6 and someone else was in the turn lane, but then left and turned around at the round about and was heading south when I parked and waited for the ranger. He showed up at 6:11. Because of what you said before, I just hung out in the turn lane. Maybe that was me blocking your spot? I saw about 4 other boats that were obviously bass fishing that I don't normally see on the lake.

Ahhhh, that was you after all. Yep that was me that pulled up and left.

I was the big guy with all the rods playing loud music. Lol not really. When I saw the boat next door, I was wondering if it was yours but remembered you saying it was a mod-v hull. Had 3 riders.

I didn't remove the bait. A few chunks came out when the fish got back into the water, including that white ball thingy.

Then I'm pretty sure that was you guys at Farthole. Catching anything there?

Yep and there was that really nice Triton unloading.

There was another bass boat out there with 2 guys that were getting closer to me as I was busy putting a clinic on these 1#ers.

Yup, 3 on board. My wife and a friend. Sorry, but I didn't know that was your spot. Now that I have fished it, you can rename the spot - the old fart hole - after me. ;-) Only one decent one there. Pulled another plastic out of a fish there again. I think if I should start keeping all of them and melt them down and pour a new one from it. Probably will be the ultimate bait with the combined genetic make up of all the baits that worked. Ha ha! Wished i had done some top action, lots of fish jumping. Just North of there were a few pockets of good action. Especially just in front of the first big float you come up to heading North. Did you work the West side much? I went to three spots that have been really good. Except for one, the others looked totally empty. Like you, lots of smaller fish. Only a few good ones all morning. You should send that pic to our biologist. He might know since he fishes the lake. I thought it was a plastic at first.
Yeah, I was checking out the rod selection that guy had also. I would need to add a fly-bridge with rod holders to accommodate all the gear he had on my boat.
