This was my first trip to Chain Lake. Arrived approximately at 7:00 am. First thing to notice was the gravel road to the lake past the residental homes was rather steep and narrow with a few large ruts as you approach the lake. Vehicle turn-around near the lake launching area is tight. However, none of these barriers kept me from launching my kayak from the back of my pickup truck. This lake only has two homes surrounding the lake shoreline.

It wasn't more than 10 minutes and I hooked my first LMB with a broken-back minnow lure. Seemed like about every 10-20 minutes I was landing a LMB. However all seemed to be within 5-7 ounces. I fished the shoreline and deeper water because this lake is not that big. About half of the LMB were caught in about 5-8 ft depth and the other half were caught near the shoreline. Tried different lures including a whie colored rooster-tail and Z-Man chatterbait with grup. All lures seemed to have good success.

The best part of the day was the surprise when I was fishing near the NE section of the lake at approximately 10-ft depth with the Z-Man chatterbait and grub combo I hooked a nice 16-inch trout. Minutes earlier I had landed another LMB with the same lure in about the same water depth.

I fished chain when a guy in kayak told me it was his first time fishing the lake and showed me a nice looking trout like yours when he was fishing for bass. When I left the lake I saw that nice looking trout floating dead on the lake. It is a shame when people fish a selective gear lake and don't take home a leagle fish home to eat.

I definitely took home this trout and had a delicious pan-fried trout lunch and dinner. I did see the special regulations on the trout limit with => 14-inches, but missed the special gear portion. I’ll be more thoughtful to the regulations.

I fished chain when a guy in kayak told me it was his first time fishing the lake and showed me a nice looking trout like yours when he was fishing for bass. When I left the lake I saw that nice looking trout floating dead on the lake. It is a shame when people fish a selective gear lake and don't take home a leagle fish home to eat.

Chain is a good lack for LMB nothing huge but lots of them if you get something over 11" it's big there. FYI did you notice new regs that you have to use barbless hooks this year and single hook and trout size is 14"+ and you can only keep one? They screwed up my bassing lake for top water as they want barbless hooks on other then trout now too...I was pondering going out there soon.

Ever see the photo of the 9.5lb largemouth caught there earlier this Spring? I have!!! The head landscaper at my work and his buddy fish that lake and Storm a ton as they both live in Monroe. Cool thing was, his buddy caught it on the lure I showed them and told them to throw!! How sweet is that?! Sure, I would have rather caught it myself, but hey, I'll take the massive thanks I got for turning him onto the technique and PROPER equipment to throw it on! That's very possibly the fish of a lifetime for Western WA. Fortunately he actually listened and didn't fancy himself to be such a skilled angler he could throw a big fish bait during pre-spawn on 8lb test...I applaud him. Proper planning prevents piss poor performance as they say ;)

For the OP, always crazy when trout unexpectedly smash a bass lure! I've taken a couple of them for a ride over the years thinking they were bass on the hookset. Whatcom has some aggressive cuts that will hammer a spinnerbait!

8theB8 nope must of missed that never seen anything over 18" out of chain in person. (got that in October one year) Was there yesterday got a bunch of dinks which is what i usually get and one nice 13" bass about 40 ft from shore. I find it funny they slotted the lake for 14" trout I have caught two over that size in 20 plus years fishing there...now I don't fish for trout normally but caught it one May right after stocking and got 15" and 18" in fall on top water minnow...threw to where the rings after he surfaced and fish on! It's a fun lake too bad they had to mess it up changing the gear regs it's not that big to make it a premium trout lake.
