Launched at exactly 7am at Sunday Lake on Labor Day morn. Sure would be nice to get on the water a little earlier...BUT as has been the case all fishing season the homeowner next to the launch is opening the boat launch gate at 7am each day, and the signs says it's locked at 8pm. I am not sure how or IF this is allowed by the state, but he does have a homemade WDFW laminated sign on the gate with the "launch hours" posted. He has tied a bunch of pink ribbons in the chain link (so you won't crash into it?), and attaches his lock to the state's lock to keep us out every summer morning... until he's ready. For some reason, fishermen are not allowed there anymore right at dawn and until dusk - we've got to wait for the neighbor (or his buddy 2 houses down - the guy I talked to) to open the gate for public access!!??@! I have been fishing here for 30 years, but now we got a problem with drug users (he told me) at the boat launch...so the locals have taken it upon themselves to lock us fisherman out! I have emailed the state...no response. Does anyone know if this is legit? Seems like it should be against the law for someone to do this, if it's not a ruling by the state. Also, it seems like the Sheriff should be called to deal with the druggies, so I don't lose my rights as a licensed fisherman. Sorry, this has been bugging me all summer, and I had to get it out. Hoping someone that knows the full story will comment.
On to the bass fishing.......... The only thing that worked for me was dead sticking some weightless 6" hand poured noodle worms...peach color worked best. I C&R'd 24+ largemouth bass and 4 or 5 perch. The largest bass were 1.5 to 2.5 pounds, but most were dinks. One perch was 12" long monster. Most all fish were caught along pad edges or near larger clumps of spaghetti weeds. Some bass hit right away, but the larger ones especially, needed the worm to sink more. Left the lake at 9:30. The water is WAY down. I had to carry my boat to near the end of the dock and drop it in. Tough to load and unload, and get in/out, but worth it to have the lake to yourself...after 7am.....

Yeah, sounds like what's going on is not ok. I would definitely call wdfw and try to get them to talk to the guy.

Sounds like the same bs they pulled at Serene?! Nonsense. Lakefront Homeowners are not Homefront Lakeowners! Let's see, enough of us show up at 6pm so that there are too many vehicles to close the gate at 8pm?? Maybe he'd call the cops on us and get himself in trouble in the process.

I don't usually fish the evening, but if I did at Sunday Lake - I would bring bolt cutters just in case. But what a load of bull...maybe he wants to keep the best couple hours of morning and evening fishing for himself. What a deal for him!! I will be calling the WDFW soon to see if anything can be done.

yeah never heard of that policing a public boat launch. Sounds like you had some good fishing in short time.

Lots of dinks in the way...but yea, I got a lot of bites in a short time. Just as soon not waste my good worms on them though.

I just hate not being allowed on a lake at first light...especially at a public launch. I will be calling the state as soon as I have time. I'm not giving up my licensed rights without a battle.
