One of our customers, Dana Cowell, just emailed the following report for his outing on Shilshole Bay:

"I heard the fishing was good out of Shilshole Bay/MA 10 for coho, so I made a trip there by boat. I arrived Wednesday (9-13-2017) afternoon, got moorage in the marina, and fished for about three hours, hooking only shakers.

Thursday (9-14-2017) I left the dock about 6:15am and in a few minutes started fishing with the crowd of boats that quickly grew to about fifty, right outside of the marina. At 7:20am, trolling South with the incoming tide, I hooked and landed my first keeper Coho, about five pounds! It was in 250 ft of water, and I had 57 ft of wire on the down rigger. There were a couple of other boats that netted fish, but overall I didn't see a lot of boats landing fish. At 8:55am I hooked and netted a Coho that weighed about four pounds, in 250 ft of water, and 80 ft of wire, which I kept to make my limit for the day! I was fishing across the current for that fish.

My terminal tackle was the same set up that I used to catch Chinook on last month: a green hotspot flasher, 42 inches of 30# fluorocarbon leader to a 2.8 blue/green OG2 Old Goat Lure, and I had changed the hook to a Owner 3/0 Siwash.

I have caught several salmon now on this Old Goat OG2 set up. The fish hooking action of this set up, has never slowed down enough, to justify switching back to any of my "tried and true" lures (and I have a lot of gear!).

The Old Goat OG2 is a salmon magnet!!!"

HAHA you and me both Dana. Definitely hooked on Old Goats. Really wondering why I have all these other lures? We have had success on freshwater and saltwater, Cuthroat trout, Winter Blackmouth, Chinooks, Pinks and Coho. The dang things just get it done!!

I've done really well with the OG2 for Kings and on Friday, tried an OG1 for coho on our center diver rod when the bite died just to experiment and within minutes released a nice native coho. Definitely worth it to add OGs to the mix of presentations IMO.

Thanks for the feedback! (What color/size of the OG1 were you fishing for the Coho?)

I used the black, blue, and green, same color combo that did very well for Kings. I also tried adding a herring strip to the belly and it still swam very fishy but by the time I was running it, the bite totally died.

Optimal leader length for the OG2 has been 42" when fishing salmon.
