We went Tuna fishing out of Westport. It was a father son trip. FishDawg and his dad, DownriggerAl and his 3 sons, myself and my son Jeff.
We had run through the night to reach the fish (Approx. 60 miles offshore). Alan and I started the day dealing with seasickness. ARG! It was a marathon.
The fish were scattered. We'd get a few here and a few there. The sharks would move in and start messing things up. Sharky (aka DownriggerAl) did us all a favor and kept the sharks busy. Slowly our fish numbers climbed. Radio chatter put us doing well compared to others. The learning how to hook live Anchovies was challenging. They either squirted out of my hand or I would get too much meat. Despite the rough start we all caught fish. The boat total for 10 fisherman was 60 Tuna. (Approx 50 LBS. of fillets per angler.)
As an adventure it rated a 5 star trip. This report is not doing it justice. But, work is calling...
