Fished eggs out the drift boat of above Reformatory hole at first light. Then moved down. No much happening. Went to New launch in Snohomish at noon and pulled plugs about a half mile up river until 3:30. When I left the launch there still wasn't a fish turned in for weigh-in at the coho Derby. Tough day. Did catch a nice rainbow on the way out!

It's insane how the Coho just don't bite some days/weeks/ever. I've been out many mornings when they are boiling and haven't seen a thing caught in 4 hours with multiple people fishing. The most successful method that I've actually seen work is drifting a tiny DN with about 5ft of leader and a pencil lead.

Haven't fished this fishery since 2004 for that reason. Spending a grip of money on DN only to maybe walk away with a booted up coho after a full day. But I figured it was worth a try since $3500 was up for grabs.
Looking forward to the water to come up on the sky to start chasing steelies again. Hopefully there will be a good winter run this year.

I hook up and land coho virtually every time i go out for them. According to my logs i landed 127 last season. (Lost alot more than i landed too) So far ive only landed 7 this season but ive only had 4 outings and lost more than a dozen. Twitching jigs, and roe.

It takes skill, determination, long days on the water to learn what it takes to consistantly catch these fish. Footwork and homework will eventually pay off.

-think out side of the box, find water that hasn't already been pounded, fish places others refuse to, such as log jams, places that are hard to hike into or infeasable to boat through (yes these places do exist) having to bust out a rope to repel through brush down a sheer embankment is a good thing.

- use lures others may not be using, change colors and lure sizes often

-Use smaller lighter gear in clearer water

I'll post a report tomorrow. I Did pretty well this weekend.

Thanks Jon, I will give some of those tactics a try... minus the repelling down the shear cliff....Making the evening news isn't always a good thing. See you on the river!
