Hey yall, went out early to heart lake. Shore fishing right by the boat launch. Got there at 7am sharp and there was one due with s very lightweight fly rod. I was with two of my pals and we all kinda started off just chucking whatever into the lake. Fished for about 30 minutes. Saw a few massive bass in about 3 inches of water. Heart lake as a ton of algae all over the lake so casting and reeling anything massive in was just a weed catcher. First little 11-inch bass was caught on a tiny little green crank-bait that was made to look like a crawdad. Lure was about an inch long and floated. I cast that out for about 2 hours and it caught a 10-inch perch and about 4 more 7-10 inch bass. After that I switched to the fly rod and just tossed out a black woolly bugger. Was about 10am at that point. Missed about 5 small bass and landed 4 on the fly rod. My fly rod was a 7/8 and was way to big for the little bass but I was really trying to get a big bass.
The whole time me and my pals just switched spots around the boat launch area. Later some dudes showed up and were catching perch and small trout with just worms.
All and all it was a beautiful morning and the lake was so calm. First time at the lake and we all had a blast.
good spot to take kids using the small gear going for all those small bass. It was still fun catching all the small ones.
