Got to the Lincoln launch way too early and had to take a little nap in the truck to wait for enough sunlight to get the boat in the water. Launched a little after 7 and motored across to the rocks. Had one rod rigged with a perch Kekeda and the other with an orange Kekeda. First line with a perch was set at 7:15 and had a fish on before I finished letting the second one out. Not big but chunky at 15". Second fish came on the orange and the biggest for the day at 17". Fast and furious for the next 45 minutes with a double and fighting the wind. Made one pass along the rocks and had 8 rainbows and 1 little 8" smallmouth. I wanted to see if I could find some Kokanee in Hawk Creek. Apparently I wasn't the only one as there were six other boats working the area. I replaced the perch with a pink and sent it down to 25'. Played around with depth for close to an hour while the orange stayed within the top 5'. There have been many times we've caught Kokanee right on top in Hawk Creek, just not recently. Caught a few more rainbows and called it a day at about 11. I kept 5 rainbows, biggest at 17" and smallest at 15".
Orange and perch took about the same number of fish again today with a couple rainbows on the pink. Downriggers were set at 7' and 12'. Speed was 2 to 2.4 and water temp was surprisingly at 56 degrees. Had a power worm on for the first fish then took it off. Fun day out there taking a break from the tying bench. Now it's back to orders.

I tested the waters in Hawk Creek last Tuesday. Had the same results lots of bows. We did pick up 2 small Kok's one at 45' and one at 30'. I didn't put them in the boat, just flipped them off and forgot to look to see if they were clipped. Both were only about 11 to 12"s

Like it's been said before, if you're not catching them, doubt anyone is. Well at least we have the big rainbows to keep us busy and active. Thanks for letting us know about the Kokanee.

Dave, Nice report! I get a kick out of dealing with the boat and the rods by myself sometime too. Took my new Perch Kekeda's down to Banks lake and gave them a try, caught 4 nice rainbows 17-19, on get this, my orange K flies. First trip to Banks for the Tin Guppy.

Thanks Mark! I've been making shorter trips lately with as much tying as I'm doing so it's harder to get people to drive 3 or 4 hours to fish for the same amount of time. I have fun though. I haven't fished Banks for trout at all really. Heard great things though and what you just shared proves it.

Dave, are running a dodger in front of your flies and if you are what leader length are you using? I love your orange and your perch pattern, Your flies are what work the best. Nice job!

I don't use a dodger at all unless I'm Kokanee fishing in Spring or Summer and sometimes not even then. I have been asked quite a bit lately on which knot I prefer and I have to say that for me it is a non-slip mono loop. I really feel like that loop lets the fly move in the water but that could just be my mind telling me that. Thanks for using and supporting the flies.

Just ordered some of the perch, pink, and orange, will give them a try. So no dodger, are you tipping the fly with anything?

No dodger for me. I know guys that do but generally not this time of year. I usually tip with a worm but the last few trips I've been solo so if I would have used bait I'd have been done in less than an hour per the regulations. They've caught fish without any bait on but it's got me wondering if that's why I haven't had any of the bigger fish. Now I have to go out again and test my theory! I guess in the name of science I can make the sacrifice.
