Well, THAT sucked! Un-Pickled the boat and was on the water just after sunrise. I should have stuck to the ‘Perch Plan’ I had decided on the day before, use the new electronics to find the big balls of Perch, like I have done before, and fish them.
Well, the next morning I got to thinking that they have been catching Cutthroat Trout in Sammamish so maybe I should give that a shot. I put the downrigger gear in the boat and headed to ‘The Big Lake’.
Got set up and spotted fish all over the water column from 10’ to 100’. None would bite. In fact some acted like they were scared to death of the boat, diving, turning and heading direcly away. Hmmmmm.
Ran out of time and had to head home. Still nice to be on the water though as It has been a while.

Skip the down rigger and run a flat line up top or lead core. There are a lot of fish up top. Fished Weds with another kayak buddy and we landed 10 each and lost several.

I've been trolling Lake Washington 7 times in the past two months. Not once have I been able to catch a single trout. I've tried all the techniques that I am aware of. I located the depth the fish were at. I tried at least 10 different combinations of trolling gear. Tried speeds from .5 up to 3mph. Had bait on the line....lures of all types/sizes....scents......three different types of mini-flashers....long/short/in between leader lengths....distance variation behind the boat....and after all that....ZIPPO!
The only success I've had on this supposed "good" fishery, is the lowly Yellow Perch.
I'm about to bag it on this lake for trout.

It can be pretty good Spring and Summer. I have had good luck then but now, not so much. Just had perch (out of the freezer) taco’s last night. Yum! Not ‘lowly’ in the least! One of my favorite eating fish.

I meant "lowly" as far as it's size and level of sport. I like Perch very much....and it's okay to catch them when nothing else is biting. But when compared to a larger Rainbow or Cutt? No contest. I'm just disappointed in the time and effort I've put in to Lake Washington for trout yielding no results. I've literally done exactly what others have to catch them (per videos and fishing reports) and come up skunked. I guess I should just go to Sammamish next time.

The reports for Sammamish are good right now. I used to fish both about an equal split but have been getting the annual at Washinton, plus it is half the distance, so it has been almost my exclusive for the last few years.
I will probably hit Wa for Perch again soon but may still try for Cutts to see if I can find the ‘magic’ combo.

Well, I hope you do find that magic....because I can't.
I also found it odd that when I've caught perch on Washington, it isn't over by the Seahawks training facility as most people mention. I've done FAR better finding and catching them just south of the Seward peninsula. Typically in water from 15 to 40 feet deep and anywhere from 75 to 150 yards offshore.

Most guys are putting a good hurtin on those native Trout. Keep at it, you will figure it out. Then you can pack your freezer with natives too.

Are you talking right now? I do well Spring and Summer. Did better last year than I am this year at this time but I have not been out much.
Seahawks area is not deep enough this time of year. The Seward area is usually good year around but in different places. Like you stated, deeper. N of the 520 bridge on the East side is ‘usually’ good as well.

No....I would not fish the Seahawks area this time of year.

I think the next time I go out (over the Christmas holiday) I'll just focus on the perch. I've wasted so much time on trying to catch the trout that it often gets late when I bag it and go after the perch.
