Funny you mention the fish at 45-55. I saw the same thing. Couldnt get one to hit though. When we were out a week or so ago we had to cover a lot of ground. Like a desert in the normal spots. The fish we caught were absolutely belly bulging stuffed with midges so they arent hungry. Think 1.8mph might be a little slow in the current conditions. We had the most luck at about 2.5mph. Seems to be more of a reaction strike than anything. Not sure where you were fishing but funny thing was, we covered the whole dang lake and finally found willing fish right out from the launch area in about 65 fow right before it drops off to 80ish. Thats where they were, who knows where the heck they are now.

Same story for me RM- when I had 3 of us on the boat Sunday, put one line down where I saw those marks too but no takers either. Anyway Ben keep at it- you will have your day on the water soon!

Always good to get out on Lake Sammamish whether fish are willing to board the vessel or not. The biters do seem to be around 15 ft these days. I've been catching with two colors of leadcore back, at spots where four is usually the ticket.

After one season of using leadcore, I can say that being able to change speeds and sweep the line up and down is really nice. You'll get a sense for how it behaves and be able to make vertical S-patterns (it's a sine wave I think...?).

I kayak fish and have found that keeping kinks out of leadcore line is priority one, two and three. Once they build up, the line doesn't come off the reel as well or move through the guides. Since my hands are busy paddling, I'd prefer it roll off easily, especially. with light tackle that doesn't create much drag. Probably time for a new spool, now that I think about it.

I usually put about 15' of leader past the leadcore. More would be fine. But as with all gear, it is important to match the gear with the speed. I've tried slow and fast and do about the same. But I use slingblades with spoons usually. I don't like to mess with bait and I don't get bothered by perch. All kinds of spoons work, but I have done best with the rainbow colored Krocodile. Kastmasters work well also. With the spoons and slingblades, I troll about 2.6 mph. Hits are definite. You will need to estimate about 5' of depth for each color out when trolling that speed. When you have 4 or more colors out, it is a bit of a grunt to bring them in. I have one downrigger and one leadcore now. For two of us on the boat, that's all I can put over. The downrigger is easier for me. And I have an Okuma line counter reel for the downrigger. If you want to know more about matching the gear, the people at Mack's will gladly give you tips.
