We didn't start fishing until late morning as I didn't feel like being out at the coldest part of the day. I don't know if it makes any difference when to fish at this time of year. Started trolling around Inglewood Hill and headed south. Absolutely nothing. We headed for the "hot spot" out in the middle from Sulphur Springs as indicated on the last Sammamish report. After going east and west across the lake in a lazy S towards the weather buoy, finally got one hit on a silver Kastmaster. I tried fishing from 15' down to 30' and the only taker was at 15'. But alas, it shook off well before we got to see it.
After a couple of hours of no action, I decided to try out my winter spot with some drop shot rigging. My wife got some pecks next to the boat, but I couldn't seem to get anything going. i tried some fan casting for awhile and still nothing. Then next to the boat I had a peck and then a hard take down, but no connection. I did another fan cast as my wife gave me the 5 minute warning - you know, the one of "I'm cold and had enough of no catch." Apparently that worked. A quick peck and a slam. Fish on! It went down and then a good sideways run, but no aerials. The water everywhere is very murky. The results are in the picture - an 18 incher.
Didn't get skunked, but the only other person I talked to hooked two north of the buoy at about 15' depth on a downrigger. We did see two swirls at the surface and one came cleanly out of the water, but that was all that was observed. Quite cloudy this afternoon, so I have no idea if that played into the action or not. I saw about 8 trailers when I put in.
