Started out Friday morning from Spring Canyon and headed toward dam. Only one other boat anywhere to be seen so already an ominous sign. Had plenty of previous intel, including experience form last year, but to no avail. Fished the standard Kokabow dodgers with squidders, etc. tipped with corn. Just nothing happening and not marking fish at all. Ran upriver along North shore to see if we could find some fish but still nothing. So we headed up river to Keller and started fishing the North shore area above the SanPoil. Tried different depths, presentations, and speeds with no kokanee to be had. Finally switched it up a bit, ran a flicker shad in gold and bright metallic green and hit 2 trout.
Saturday we launched at Keller and headed back across the lake to the North shore. A few more boats running near the mouth of the SanPoil and along the shore but still did not see any nets flying. If Austin Moser was there catching a bunch of trout, he must have had an invisibility cloak. We hit 1 trout upstream of the SanPoil, had 3 different eagles take a close swipe at our side planers, then headed down river. Ended up hitting 3 more trout, 1 of which was about 20 inches. We did mark quite a few pods of fish but most were either at about 40 feet or 80 feet. We did not take the time to try and jig for them, but needless to say we did not get a single hit when we ran our gear through them with down riggers.
If the big kok'es are there, they have yet to get very active. Perhaps the bite will turn on soon. Keep your eyes and ears open for more
