Had the morning off work today so I decided to try lake Washington for some Cutts. Gone out a few times earlier in the winter with a few hit and runs, but nothing more than that.

With the recent sunny calm days I figured the lake may have warmed up a tiny bit. Got the toon set up and was fishing by 9:30am. Around 10 I had a huge take down but very quickly released. Another hour rolls by and the same scenario happens. It’s about 11:45 and finally another huge strike and this one sticks. Gorgeous 17 -18 inch female. Called it quits around 12:30.

Gear used was a blue/sliver wedding ring I tied with a smaller blade. Dick nite dodger in solid moon Jelly. Trophy trout scent.

Depth: started at 35 in 40 FOW. Ended up landing one at 45ft in 50 FOW. Fished mostly in Moss Bay.

Pretty fun day in my books. I never fish in the winter. The lake seems to have a bit more activity since my last trip. A few surfacing fish here and there.

Great report/beautiful day for fishing!

Do you normally like to troll about five feet above the bottom of Lake Washington? Do you use a downrigger in combination with a fish finder?

Tight lines!

I was tipped that most fish in the Kirkland area hug the bottom during the winter. So I tried it, and I was not disappointed. Although, as you can see on my finder in the pic, fish do suspend and hang out up in the 30-35ft range. So yes, the downrigger is used when I troll. The deeper fish were more willing to bite, and were much larger.

Thank you for the report. I only live about two miles from the Kenmore launch, so I need to get off my rear and get out there.
