My partner and I fished Lake Sammamish for 4 hours this morning from the south end boat launch. We pulled out of the lake shortly after the noon hour. We hit all the spots on the lake which were very productive for us in the October to early January period using all the good stuff that worked well in that period. We started out fishing our favorite places in the north end of the lake and then worked south. Due to breezy conditions, the lake surface was choppy especially in the north half of the lake which made trolling somewhat difficult. We saw no other Cutthroat fishermen on the lake. We trolled using down riggers and leaded line and worked various depths. We almost drew a skunking if it had not been for one 12 inch Cutthroat which we caught and released near the weather buoy prior to calling it a day. We had no other fish encounters. This was our 3rd outing on the lake since since the fishing turned slow around mid January. Although the bug activity on the lake has significantly subsided, they are still making their appearance. Bird activity on the lake was nowhere near as heavy as it was in earlier months. We think fishing success has been negatively impacted due to the high water level of the lake which tends to further scatter the fish , continued bug activity on the lake that causes the fish to be uninterested in lure offerings and because the larger size Cutthroat are now in their spawning phase and will be in that phase through early April. We think once the mentioned conditions have passed that fishing hopefully will improve.
