It was a beautiful day today to be on the water. Started in calm water at 10am. Marked quite a few fish between 20-50' and really worked the dynamic eastern shoreline. Most of the time I used my downrigger with dodger and lure on line#1 and lead core line with dodger and lure or just lure on line#2. It was a workout today. Certainly an exercise in focus, quick action, changing out setups to find something that worked. Never really found it. Tried gold/silver, clown and red dodgers. Varied with and without dodgers and worm tip, various wedding ring, kokanee, smile blades, slow death hook with worm, God/s tooth setups. Dragged the bottom way too many times trying to be where I saw fish. Stopped and casted for a while and had a good bite that did not stick. The wind kicked up and I went back to trolling. The wind and waves created significant rocking of my boat and what looked like excellent action on the lines! That was my last hope... I finally called it quits after about 4 hours. From reading other posts, I see that a setback of 60-70' behind the downrigger on other lakes was successful for cutthroat. I used 20 or 30' downrigger setback today, but dare not do more while fishing in only 25-40' water depth. My lead core line at times was as much as 120' out to reach 20-30' depth. It is time to explore another lake or two or just wait for warmer weather...
