My partner and I fished the lake yesterday morning from the south end boat launch. We trolled using leaded line with 5 to 7 colors at various depths and speeds with dodgers and various types of spoons for 4 hours with only several light smacks to our lures. No fish were brought to our net. Light rain cam down on us throughout the morning. Although fishing can be good and even hot at times in the November to January period, I've always noticed once we get into February and March, the fishing can turn spotty. Yesterday was one of those not so good days on the lake. I always look for a good rebound as we get into May and June. Once the lake water is impacted by the heat of summer, the fish go much deeper and fishing once again become more of a challenge until the fall and winter months. All in all, this lake is a lot of fun to fish irregardless of whether the fishing is good or bad. Its just nice to get out in the fresh air and on the water. .

Howdy Sharp Hooks, sorry for the rough day. This time of year is rough as many of the fish are spawning in the tributaries. When I fish with clients on the water, I usually use one lead core line and then stack on my down riggers for the rest of the poles. This time of year I fish 2-3 colors out usually as the fish are still higher in the water column. We are still seeing some midges around and on calm days the fish will be surfacing. As I am sure you know, fishing us usually a bit better in calm and sunny weather...at least for me

Adding to your comments that this time of year is now spawning season for the Cutthroat in Lake Sammamish, I was told by a WDFW biologist quite a number of years ago that non-spawning Cutthroat (the smaller class size) in the lake will often follow the spawners toward and into the many tributaries and will then chow down on their egg droppings. Beyond that, I understand that Cutthroat are known to be quite cannibalistic so I guess that should come as no surprise. I've always thought that contributes to the spotty fishing at this time of the year since that phenomenon would allow for fewer fish in the main body of lake water. I was just wondering if you, FastActionGS, have heard the same.
