A friend and I @knnn_bc fished a river we frequent often this time of year for bulls and steel. We primarily swung spoons but also fished jigs and steely worms on our centerpin rods and intruders on our spey rods. The spoon of coarse being by far the most productive. We both landed several bulls, he landed a 16" rainbow and i lost a fairly large steelhead aswell in a wavy run
. By the end of the day we brought 8 bulls to hand ranging from 18"-24" and lost another half dozen or so. which is pretty average for this river.
The river was low and clear and we only found fish sitting in choppy runs with surface disturbance, in jogging pace water. Particularly we found fish in that water near drop offs near shallow water.in the shallow soft water we found salmon fry and in one spot we found a size 12 olive caddis hatch going on. Lots of signs of life to be found on this beautiful sunny day. A good start to the long weekend.
