We worked for our limit yesterday. Fished from 10am until 4pm with 10 fish kept, 1 small one released, and a whole load of missed bites and long distance releases. When we arrived a hatch was happening right next to the launch with swallows swooping down to pick up the bugs off the surface and lots of trout rising as well. We worked this area hard with a number of techniquest for over 3 hours knowing there was trout in the area, but they must have had full bellies and were not interested in what we were presenting. All we were able to show for that time was 1 keeper caught on power eggs and 1 small one released on a panther martin.
Very discouraged and doubting our abilities, we decided to explore the lake and start trolling again. Near the end of our planned path we stumbled on a school, where we would get multiple bites everytime through. We made many passes through the school and lost countless fish to short bites or long distance releases. During one particularly embarassing moment we got excited over a double hook up and my buddy knocked the net off the boat. That double ended in 2 fish lost (mine popped off while trying to hoist it over the side) and the net sinking beyond reach. Eventually though, we reached our limit and left the lake around 4pm.
Many shorefishermen were staked out on the launch road to chase recent planters, but we only heard of a few trout caught when talking to them on our pull out. Their baits were right in the zone where that hatch happened in the morning and it sounds like those fish never really came around to powerbait.
