This is a late report from an April Cast and Blast trip NWFR took on the upper reaches of Lake Roosevelt with Lake Roosevelt Charters. We stayed at Bucks Canyon Lodge and I got a a bonus crack of dawn hunting trip for my first ever turkey!

The fishing action was pretty darn good. We joined Todd and Scott of Lake Roosevelt Charters as they introduced us to deep water jigging. Our fish came from over 100 feet deep, using one ounce jigs tipped with plastic worms and a half of a night crawler. Todd and Scott have the technique down and got us on a lot of good "eaters" over the weekend. The fishing was challenging at times due to winds, but even so we ended up bringing a lot of fish home with us.

My first turkey hunt was an experience I'll never forget and I definitely want to thank Rick and Wendy Wakefield for their hospitality and fine accommodations. The opportunity to shot a turkey was an amazing experience. Pre-dawn we waited in our blind, listening to the turkeys until they descended from the trees and at crack of dawn we had three big roosters approach our blinds. The signal given from Rick and we three hunters let loose our volleys. It was done in an instant but will remain a memory of a lifetime.

I can't recommend enough staying at Bucks Canyon Lodge and then fishing walleye with Lake Roosevelt Charters in this corner of paradise. We live in such an amazing area!
