A group of us were camping in Yakima canyon and one of my friends decided to take his kids fishing at McCabe pond, so I tagged along. We were initially targeting rainbows using a worm under float, but the blue gills were hungrier. It was good action for the kids (4 and 6 years old), with lots of fish missed but steady action. Usually within a minute of casting out it was bobber down.
We also managed to pull in a few rainbows as well, three in the 11" range and three a bit bigger at about 13-14". The constant action kept the kids busy and us busy trying to keep their lines baited and in the water.
Both kids were able to reel the fish all the way in themselves and get them through the weeds (mostly) since we did not have a net. It was a fun time and the kids were interested most of the day and excited about all the catching.
We ended the day when we ran out of worms with 14 blue gills and 6 rainbow trout to fill out our limits, 5 fish any species in this little pond.
Having the wind at our backs was the key to keeping the bobber in a good location, and for casting with the 2' kids pole.
