My daughter's friend has been wanting to go fishing with us for quite some time, so took her and my daughter to Pine yesterday late morning to get them on some of the RBTs. Launched at 10:30a. The parking lot was half full, so nice and quiet. pulling away from the launch I put on a fire tiger flatfish for my daughter's friend and played the line out. I gave her the rod and was explaining the fishing technique and what to expect when a fish hits...no sooner were the words out of my mouth and her rod gets yanked sideways. I asked if that was a hit or if she moved the rod and she said "I don't know!". I look back and a fish goes airborne behind the boat. I tell her to start reeling. Unfortunately the fish spit the hook about half way to the boat. So much for verbal directions....lets fish! It was very comical. I set my daughter up with an orange flat fish and we trolled across the lake. Oddly enough we only got a couple hits on the way across, so swapped out to spoons in nickel/chartreuse. That made a difference. The kids starting getting regular hits and caught a good number of fish. We stopped a couple times to toss the TMs near shore and I caught a couple that way. The kids didn't have much luck with that method, so back to trolling. Things were slower than last weekend, but still enough action to keep the kids entertained. I thought they'd be good for about two hours max, but we lasted for 3 hours out there, so they must have been having fun. Total 14 to the boat, a bout 8 lost while fighting, and quite a few more hits that didn't stick. It was fun watching them work together reeling and netting fish and then chasing them around the bottom of the boat trying to get ahold of them.
The sun came out and it got quite warm before we left and more people were showing up. The parking lot was full when we drove out at 2p.
