May has started out as a very good month for halibut fishing. We have 6 trips under our belt so far this season and our catch has been a consistent 60 - 100 pound halibut for everyone on board. Short ride out, set the anchor and start the scent trail. Been taking a couple hours to get the scent flowing over the edge of the reef but then bam when they hit, they hit good. And the fight is on. We have had consistent luck with the jig head and white auger tail laced with the every potent smell of good ol herring at about 125 - 145 ft. After we have caught the limit of halibut for the boat it is onto rock fish. The pods of fish are there in normal numbers, drift across them jigging a colorful dart and your limit will soon be caught. The kings haven't moved into the bay in any large numbers, with a little patience and many passes along the shoreline at 40 - 60 ft depth pulling a chrome flasher and a double hook setup with a herring. Here is a couple of pics from the last few trips to enjoy.
