Went lake fly fishing this weekend with a friend in region 3 (Thompson Nicola region) in BC. I fished both saturday and sunday, primarily dialing into the chironomid hatch that was going off. The lake just finished turning over friday evening, on friday the lake had 1.5 ft of vis, 3-5 feet of vis on saturday and 10 feet of vis on sunday. As oxygen levels restored from anoxic turn over conditions the bite increasingly became better. Thus the morning bite on saturday wasn't great but still managed a few dozen hook ups and a dozen or so fish to hand on saturday, not sure how many hook ups we had on sunday, but landed 30-40 rainbows, primarily pennask strain with a few fraser valleys in the mix. The largest fish caught this trip was a 20" football that likely weighed 3-3 1/2lbs (nose to fork measurement)
Throat samples revealed size 16 lime green chironomids, daphnia, size 20 scuds, and glass worms in most fish, my big fraser valley, had a dozen full grown leeches and some size 8 scuds. Interestingly enough the only thing i could get interest on was a wine body, gold rib white bead chironomid in size 16 on saturday and 12 on sunday. We did see some midge hatches going off and in this area the largest fish were had, although no real trophies were taken by either of us this trip. Still had fun though.
