It’s Sockeye Season on Conconully Upper Lake!?! Let that sink in.
We hit Conconully upper lake today in pursuit of some tasty Kokanee. This year the fishing has been slow to start in Conconully lake for Kokanee, however whispers have been running around town about monster Kokanee being caught but few and far between. Until this week! It’s true the upper lake has started to turn on and there are monster early season Kokanee in there! We caught fish in the 17”-18” class today. On this light Kokanee gear it’s a absolute hoot. We lost a bunch today, but that’s ok because this was like getting a bag of Sockeye down in Brewster pool. Bring a long net your going to need it. My 12 year old made his own lure with a treble hook, red bead a egg sinker another bead, a smile blade (moon jelly), and another bead and had it on a pole from the other day it was tied up on a leader that looked about right, so I tossed a dodger and a banana weight in the mix and it ended up boating the first fish. Only had 2 lines out.and was still getting going. This thing was pulling drag at times and diving away from the boat. Gave my Son his hands full. What a blast. The other 2 landed came @30 on the wire but we lost a couple that came off the long lines too. Les Davis 50/50 and Mack’s DD dodgers in the smaller sizes. It was a not white hot but we hit a few doubles and when you do it gets crazy because these things go where they want! This is a whole different kind of Kokanee fishing. Wow! We fished a couple hours at lunch so it’s a 4.
