Ok so this started out Thursday night. We couldn’t get a campsite we wanted in Conconully so we decided to go camp at Specticle Lake Resort. It worked out great, they had a cancellation for a rv space right next to the water and boat launch. It was a little quieter than in the heart of the resort by the pool. We have a VW Westfalia camper van and got a spot amongst the Giant RV crowd. You know the type, RV as big as my house trying to back a 12 foot aluminum in at the launch, his wife is yelling at him about how he just ran over the flower bed as he drives his trailer out on the dock... yea those guys. (Notice tiny camper van amongst giant RVs in photos) Well they have bathrooms in RVs, the Westie, um well...so a negative on our own bathroom. It was a bit of a walk but not more than 50 yards and the showers smelled like a pool and the bathrooms where clean too. Now keep in mind this resort is not the ritz, It’s a little bit older but they keep it up and clean. The fish cleaning station has running water and there is waterfront camping with shoreline suitable for keeping your boat right there! There is also a dock out front of the waterfront hotel. They have a little store with ice , beer, basic tackle, and condiments so when you realize you forgot the katsup and mustard while cooking dinner it’s all good! Not to mention the prices are very reasonable for the store, campsites and full hookup spots. So we had a water front RV spot last minute Thursday so if you cancelled your reservation Thursday afternoon at this resort I want to personally thank you, we enjoyed it in your absence! Did I mention that Spectacle lake has bass, perch, crappie, bluegill, rainbow trout, and Kokanee. We had a bunch of bluegill on their beds right in front of our campsite that kept the kids boys during the idle time. So we arrived about 4:30 Friday afternoon and spent about a hour setting up camp, and launching the boat. Walked around checked out the pool and the facilities. Then about 7 my 12 year old and I headed out and started trolling. I had a game plan run a few experimental things and run a couple staples till we figure out what they want. A lot of NWFR readers are familiar with the gods tooth lure, and how Reli lure had modified the rigging of it for Kokanee. Well it looks like I hit a absolute home run. I have not seen any for sale up here in my region or I would own a few, so I decided to pull out some humdinger lures made by Shasta Tackle now owned by Mack’s lure. I rigged it up kinda like Reli does the gods tooth but I drilled a extra hole( probably not necessarily). We limited in about 2 hours, but most fish caught in last hour once we had speed(1.28-1.64) and color corn dialed(pink). Day 2 we started fishing right about 5 pm. All 4 in the boat this time, and we had our limits(we thought) and back at camp by 7:15! So 2hours fishing with 3 poles 17 Kokanee in the cooler. Kokanee Kryptonite customized Humdinger @ 25 feet on the wire behind a Mack’s DD dodger. Kokanee Kryptonite Hand tied hoochie behind either a 50/50 les Davis dodger or a Paulina Peak Big Eye dodger in Gold with Uv white/pink(or orange) graphic on the long line and other Down rigger. 2 days this one lure accounted for about 75% of all the fish caugh, and the action was so good we never fished more than 3 poles even when we had all 4 people in the boat. All told we fished 3 poles 4 hours and landed 27 Kokanee. Would of been 30 but we lost count and thought every one had their limit. But this one lure got about 15-20 of the Kokanee. We got all three poles out very few times and one time we did manage to hook up on a triple! It was hammer time the fish preferred bloody tuna but it really didn’t matter what scent I used. If I had more custome rugged Humdinger spoons that’s all I would of run by about a hour in it was obviously out fishing everything I had. And by the looks of people’s faces at the docks we had done well. You seen it here first, custome rigged Humdinger your welcome Mack’s lure!
Tight lines!

Well done! Love the pic of the Westfalia in the middle of the pack! Now for the Humdinger rig...great job. Does it have action rigged that way or just what the dodger imparts? Tight lines - Alan - iFishSolutions "The Experiment Must Continue"

It has a darting flickering action the dodger helps but at slower speeds it does give more action than the standard rigging. This thing was special!

Great catch and I enjoy camping at that resort every year. Good fishing locations in that area. How'd the fish taste?

Thanks for the great report. I had no idea there were Kokanee in that lake. I see no info on the WDFW website or rules pamphlet regarding Kokanee?? they look to be of decent size. Nice work.

Yea they have been in there for a few years right in that 12” class. Not the monsters from conconully, but my boys appreciate the fast action. So did my wife, I knew we would not have any trouble so I was content on Jose st kicking around the resort all day. Then 2 hours of furry!
