Hit lake Washington on Friday July 13th. Launched from the Coulon boat ramp at 8:15 am. After reading Salmonbarry's fishing report experience mine was the polar opposite. That's because he's a better fisherman then I am of course ;-). Headed over to the South end of Mercer Island and sent the fishhawk temp probe down to the bottom in 110' of water to see what the water temperature was. Looked like the comfort range for trout was between 50' and 75'. From 8:45am till 1:00 pm. I cruised all up and down Mercer Islands South side, out into the main channel between Seward park and down to the Atlantic ramp area. I saw plenty of bait fish and fish on the fish finder and went back and forth through them many times with numerous lures, dodgers and scents, but no luck at all. I threw everything in the book at them in the way of lure and flasher/dodger combinations, absolutely nothing.

Around 1:00 pm I decided to eat lunch because that usually gets the strike started, still nothing. After lunch headed into the main body of water between Mercer and the South shore of Lake Washington. Around 3:15 pm just about when I was ready to give up and call it a day I decided to try one of the Rasticle lures I had built. (YouTube "rasticle" if you want to know what these are and how to make them). No sooner did I get it down to 60' and it was fish on. From that point on every time I put the Rasticle down I had a fish on within 5 to 10 minutes. At 4:20pm I was done catching my limit of fish and ready to head home. Caught 4 nice chunky trout and one nice kokanee which was a surprise. Didn't have any sockeye contact today at all which was good. Like I said I saw lots of bait balls out there and lots of fish feeding on the bait but I could not get them to strike when I was going back and forth thru them. I zigzagged through several of them many times. Absolutely beautiful day to be on the water but it's getting to be that time of year when there's a lot more boat traffic out there so it makes for choppy water. Be safe. G.

Wow great report and way to persevere! I forgot about my fish hawk temp probe so need to deploy that next time out to check things out too! Glad you found what they wanted and that's fishing on lake WA! No ones a better fisherman then the other it's just finding what they want to bite and where they are! Hope we cross lines one day out there and get to say hi! I may sneak out Wednesday morning before work just in case you happen to get out!
