In the lake first thing in the morning when the park opened up. The lake was in beautiful shape, almost like glass.

We had our first fish on only about a minute after getting set up. Yesterday we were getting them a little deeper, abut 40' but today they were higher up first thing in the morning, 35'.

We caught a total of 20 fish today and lost 4. The action was better than the day before. That is because we had the fish dialed in from the previous day on the lake. We caught a few nice fish first thing in the morning but then they decided to shrink in size and we were getting small fish, 8 - 12" and fishing catch and release.

So we headed out into deeper water and started fishing deeper, 60 - 70' and then started landing nicer fish.
We were using gods tooth spoons, Rapala Blue Fox Minnow with spinner, Rapala broken back minnow, 1 5/8" Hotshot, in chartreuse color.

This was not the day to get to the boat launch late!! When we left a park ranger was only letting in a boat after one left the park launch site. But then what does one expect on a 90 degree day. People with boats were backed up quite a ways towards Issaquah waiting to get access to the ramps.

It was a good time with the fishing pretty much steady all day. Had a double today and we were able to rid the lake of one of those nasty discarded water skiing tow ropes, 3rd one this year! All great fun.

Thanks, I find that giving the gods tooth just a little more angle on the larger sice and a little bow in the back end of the body gives it great action when using a tiny piece of worm.

1.5 mph is the magic number. There is lots of weeds floating in the lake so try and find a spot that has clean water when letting your gear out and if you don't hook up in 15 - 20 min., might be a good bet to check gear for weeds. Almost every time one of our rods went cold, we pulled it up to find we had caught giant seaweed mosters!
Have a good time out there today if you don't go salmon fishing!!

Great report! I was out there on my kayak today and caught three in about 30 feet of water. Two of them were over 16 inches. Had to get out of there by 2 PM, because the wake boats and waverunners turned the lake into a wave pool. I've never seen a line to get into the park like that.

You are a BRAVE MAN!!! going out on that lake in a kayak!! Sometimes it was like fishing off of Westport in the ocean.
I can just imagine what the line must have been like a couple of hours after we left as we passed many boats heading that way driving home.
Great job on catching some fish!

What a success! I believe we saw you many times, when I was fishing with my friend in April and May. Yesterday, we started at 10AM, and got only 3 fish by 2PM, using Rapala and Dick Nite spoons in different colors, depth was 30' to 60'.

You must have hit a golden spot!

We did find a golden spot on the lake, there is no doubt about that. I am not sure what exatly causes the fish to congregate in certain areas of the lake, maybe somebody can shed some light on that. We found a small spot, about a quarter mile by a half mile that held all kinds of fish. Just a little outside of that area, a little closer to shore, or a little farther out, a little too far up lake or down lake and the depthfinder's screen was empty and the rods went dead.
Earlier in the year we found the fish would be in other spots, those spots now have very few fish in them. Not sure if its underwater springs, water currents, boating activity, sunspots, mermaids or the temperature of Nome, Alaska that determines where to find them!! I am sure that feed governs that but what governs where the feed will be???
We have fished this lake for years for the fantastic smallmouth fishing but this is the first year we tried targeting the trout and are still learning this lake so any help out there woud be great!
