After reading fwfishing report about Boren (closes small lake to me) I wanted to see how I could do from my pontoon using a Bobber TMagnet setup.

I got to the lake about 3:45 and fished till 8:15 on a perfect cool overcast day. My plan was to work the whole lake using my fins and see happens. Water was quite clear compared to most lakes that I fish and I could see weeds everywhere. Quickly I caught a small perch and a small LMB. Then a nice 11” LMB after dealing with the weeds non stop. Working my way along the Coal Creek Road side of the lake I started to catch Pumpkinseeds and is,e were nice sized and fat.

Fwfishings report mentioned Crappie. I personally have never seen one caught by anyone including myself. After 15-20 Sunfish, I started thinking that fwfishing was catching Sunfish and calling them Crappie. Then it happened, my first Crappie out of the lake. Quite small to say the least but now I know that fwfishing was right.

Found a log submerged and thru a Crankbait for a change of pace and bam, my first ever LMB on a Crankbait. I nice 12” that was down under the log.

The North and West side of the lake was really weeded and the action slowed down. I did find a small honey hole for some more nice fighting Sunfish and then I caught my 3rd Crappie which was half way decent in size.

Overall, about 20-25 Sunfish, 8-10 LMB (plenty of dinks) 3 Crappie and 2 Perch.

A few LMB went after my Bobber so I might bring my fly rod and some poppers on the next trip.

Congratulations TMBob! I always knew Lake Boren harbored a good population of fish, but I never expected so many. You mentioned 20-25 sunfish, was there a specific area with them, or did they just cover most of the lake?

Do you have something to get out on the water with? If so, I definitely found spots better than others....at least for yesterday’s outing. It’s pretty simple.....less weeds more fish, based on the way that I was fished.

We are going to start calling you Sunfish Hunter :-). I remember when we first met on Boren you were asking me about the crappie I caught there. I actually caught that on a 1/2 oz Kastmaster of all things.

Sunfish Hunter? What take that Bobber under I catch, or what ever the lake has to offer. Over 100 spiny rays at my fav lake on Sat. You need to come down and enjoy the non stop action.

Also, sorry that I'm three months late, but what jig did you use? And if you still remember, could you point out any specific parts of the lake you found to have more fish?
