Fished Sekiu Monday afternoon (8/27), Tuesday morning (8/28), and Wednesday morning (8/29). There were two of us fishing Old Goat OG2s in a variety of colors and sizes. For all of Monday and Tuesday, we were fishing the lures available from the store in 2.8" and 3.9" behind an 11" red racer or a purple-haze flasher. And, we were fishing them with the stock leader length. We trolled fast, with almost 60 degrees on the downrigger cable. And, the downrigger cable length varied from 40' (early morning) to 90'. We focused primarily in water depths ranging from 450 to 600 feet.
On Wednesday, I decided to test a couple of new colors in the 5" OG2. I fished one of those colors (chartreuse and fluorescent green) solo--no flasher or attractor. Within seconds, literally, of attaching this lure, we had a strong takedown and that lure continued to produce for the rest of the day. (I plan to paint up a bunch and get them up on the online store.)
The remarkable thing about Wednesday morning was the number of fish. We released at least 11 wild fish before we finally had the 4 hatchery fish that we kept for our limits. These fish are bright and fat!
Created a short video of our outing on Wednesday:
