I must have timed it just right for toothy critters on Long; caught 5 pike and missed 7 others. Started off at first light with a white spinnerbait and it took a while but I found them in shallow weeds in several different areas of the lake. All were between 23 and 26 inches so there must have been an excellent spawn several years ago. They were very aggressive but if they missed the first time I couldn't get them to hit again. None followed my spinnerbait to the boat so no figure eighting was needed. Also caught 4 smallies with the biggest right around 2lbs. I was solo and enjoyed nice weather; surprisingly nit a lot of other fishermen on the lake for a Saturday. Well off to the Arm tomorrow for some walleyes.

I usually keep a soft plastic frog bait rigged up for when they won't give me that second chance bite. A lot of times if they won't hit a second time, I'll toss the frog at em and they crush it. Just a little slower moving bait that looks like real food and they have trouble resisting. Can't tell you how much I like seeing fish of that size in Long Lake. Now I gotta get out there and catch a few of them. It's just hard to get off of Cda when it's producing so well.

Sounds like you had a great day!!

Alan: The walleye fishing on the Arm was extremely slow: we caught 25 but only two were worth keeping and almost all were caught trolling smile blades.

AJ's Dad: If I lived closer to CDA I would probably be out there cashing toothy critters just like you. I do pretty fair at Silver and Newman also.
