Pothole Reservoir September 18 -22 2018.
We got to go fishing at Potholes this year at a reasonably good time. It may be the only trip I get this year. I, Susan and Phil (Deckhand) Dickson headed over Tuesday September 18th. We must have done this enough that the process of dropping the boat in the water, leaving the trailer and paying for moorage went very smoothly. WE did not try going out that day, it was a long drive for us.
Wednesday found us working Medicare Beach for 3,5 to 4 hours at 1.4mph. We tried everything in our arsenal. No Bites. The fish finder showed fish everywhere on that stretch of water. Nothing. WE moved to the head of Crab creek. The water level was 20ft. lower than regular lake level. So, we could not go far up the creek without running into very skinny water. That said we boated our first fish, a keeper, eater Walleye about 17”. I then managed to hook 2 fish that felt better but they managed to avoid the boat. Then Mr. Deckhand landed a dandy small mouth bass, it was maybe 3lb. He chose to release this fish. Followed by 2 monster Crappy each @12”. I’m going to eat them in the morning. We boated 2 more eater Walleye before calling it a good day of fishing.
Thursday, we started as early as our bodies would allow, about 8:30AM. Tried Medicare again with the same result. Nothing. Went to the same zone off Crab creek. 2 Walleye, a Cat fish and Mr. Dickson’s large fish of the week a 5lb. Large Mouth Bass. He chose to keep it. WE boated 2 Perch and left them in the lake to their fate
Friday we managed a couple more Walleye and a couple of cat fish. That was about it. Oh, yeah, I pulled in a 12"+ Bull Blue Gill. Biggest dang Gill I have seen even in Cabela’s fish tank. What a beautiful fish.
Saturday morning is all we had left, and we went out for 2 hours and were skunked. Oh well, we were happy with what we got and could go home to brag.
