I went to Clear Lake on Saturday figured big power boats towing people would be off the water...arrived dead calm hit channel on right and started with buzzbait and top water minnow...got a bite within few minutes and spooked one saw the roll on minnow...getting lots of action and caught three by casting left, right and to middle of channel. Biggest was 12". Got two more swimming minnow back doing pause, twitch and go reel...had big hit as soon as it hit the water but he missed it...had couple boats go by I was up to six bass and hadnt left the channel...last year got 15" and 17" along sides of pads so there are some big bass hanging out in the shallows...well weather decided to change light rain and windy got gusty pretty quick after hour fishing...my trolling motor battery was dead won't hold a charge...so thought of rowing against the wind didn't appeal to me....I decided to head into the tiny Lilly pads and turned up the trolling motor and headed to shore on right of channel....found nice opening in back of pads and first cast with floating minnow....here comes a wake!!! Wait for it Bam fish on!!! Good fight and haul him up over the pads to the boat...nice one! Measure it take selfie 15"! Saw quite a few wakes while top water fishing today...fun to see them react to the bait. Windy kept howling tried frog and couple other spots had couple small hits but no more fish...quit at 2:30pm. Was planning on fishing until dark but my 6 1/2 ft flat bottom boat isn't that great against whitecaps...not a bad day got seven. All caught and released.
Good luck out there.
James
